Supreme Patriarch of Thailand - Phra Somdet Sangkaraj of Wat Bowon is the head of all Thai monks and temples at home and abroad. Phra Somdet Sangkaraj was born on Friday 3rd of October 1913, in the year of the ox in Ban Nua Muang of Kanchanaburi. He ordained on the 12th of June 1933 in Wat Devasangharam, Kanchanaburi in year 1972 the title "Somdet" (royal one) was bestowed upon him and in 1989 he assumed the office of the Supreme patriarch. He is the first Supreme Patriarch of Thailand who does not come from the rows of the royal family.
