Wat Suthat - Somdet Phra Sangkarat Pae (The 12th Somdet Phra Sangkaraj – Supreme Patriarch of Thailand) was born on 12th November BE2399 during the reign of King Rama 4. His family members were farmers. So at the age of 13, Somdet Phra Sangkarat Pae ordained as a novice monk and had his education from Phra Somdet Somboon Wat RatBoorana. Back in those days, children that were borned in poor families would normally send their children to the nearby temple in the province or village so that their children could receive education from the monk in the temple. in a family of farmers.  During his time in Wat RatBoorana, Somdet Phra Sangkarat Pae would travel to Wat Torng Noppakun and study Dhamma from Ajarn Poh. In BE2422, Somdet Phra Sangkharaj Pae was at the age of 23 and he was officially ordained as a monk by Phra Somdet WanRat (Daeng). Somdet Phra Sangkharaj Pae was a fast learner about Dhamma and also an experienced practitioner of Kammathana Vipassana in the Thai Forest Tradition style. He is also considered one of the top guru monks in that era. Somdet Phra Sangkarat Pae passed away on 1st November BE2487 at the age of 94. Both his funeral and cremation was carried out under the patronage of the King and Queen.
